A wine adventure from the incredible dirt in the Wilyabrup pocket of the Margaret River region.
The Stormflower vineyard was planted in the mid-1990s, and is currently 9.2 Hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chenin Blanc vines. The name, Stormflower, comes from the spring storms that hit the property each year, bringing with them strong winds and often hail. Despite the storms, the vineyard continues to flourish and provide the high quality fruit that becomes Stormflower wine.
Stormflower is all about producing the best wine we can from our small block, with all wines made only with fruit from the vineyard. Our wines are intended to drink well on release and be geared mainly around food, making structure and texture critical elements of our wines.
Sustainable farming is an integral part of the Stormflower philosophy. We pay great attention to the health of the soil, and this results in a vineyard that is a healthy, bio diverse and resilient system. The vineyard has gone through many changes since we bought it in 2007. We began with a transition to organic composts and natural soil biology stimulants and minimising the use of chemicals. We gradually moved the vineyard to a fully organic system, and achieved full organic certification by NASAA in 2016.
Organic certification is a way of ensuring that our viticultural and winemaking practices are as gentle on the environment as they can be. But organic viticulture is not an end in itself, it is just one element of making great wine sustainably. We think the results are worth the extra effort.
