Stormflower Vineyard

Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Museum Release

Original tasting notes: A classic Wilyabrup Cabernet from another great season in Margaret River. A very wet winter followed by a mild spring and a warm dry ripening period provided perfect conditions for the vines and resulted in wines with strong varietal characters and plenty of flavour. This is a wine of delicate structure with bright juicy fruit, integrated dusty oak and subtle underlying earthy notes which add complexity. Highly scented aromas of blueberries and plums with subtle oak notes are reflected on the palate in the generous flavours and fine-grained tannins.

Museum tasting notes: Nose is showing good structural characters and plenty of fruit. Palate is juicy with notes of plum and well balanced with fine grained tannins. Beautiful wine with potential to age further.

Vineyard Notes
A challenging year with above average temperatures and damaging storms. July 2013 brought damaging winds causing widespread windburn damage to shoots and flowers resulting in comprehensive yield loss. The Shiraz and Chenin were the worst affected with up to 75% of flowers (fruit) lost. Summer was warm with a few hot spikes, but ample water in the ground kept the vines in good condition. The ripening period of January and February was moderate, with little or no rain - perfect conditions for the vines. Flavours could develop evenly, there was no threat of disease, and organic practices had begun with no herbicides or pesticides used in the vineyard. The resultant wines have strong varietal characters, without any cooked notes. The wines have retained a delicacy while still having plenty of flavour.
