Stormflower Vineyard

Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Museum Release

Original tasting notes: Our first certified organic wine! Pale straw in colour, this wine is showing intense tropical fruit aromas of passionfruit, stone fruit, gooseberry and floral notes. The vibrant palate is complex and beautifully balanced with tropical fruit flavours and zesty citrus, finishing with lingering vibrant, crisp acidity.

Museum tasting notes: The colour has remained a bright pale gold. A gentle nose which has developed mature cheese platter characters with fresh remnants of nectarine. A fresh, soft palate is ripening well with age.

Vineyard Notes
Low Winter rainfall and a warm Spring provided a good start to the season. A few Spring storms damaged some of the early growth, but this is the norm in this region. Vine growth was generally strong, and the vines healthy with a moderate crop. A very unusual rain event in mid January, provided 75 – 100 mm of rain over 2 days. The balance of the season was long and mild. As it turned out, the rainfall in the middle of the driest part of the year was a boon to most vines, giving them a mid-season boost. The quality of the whites was exceptional, in particular the Chardonnay in terms of both yield and quality. While the extended exposure of the berries to elements of weather, pests and disease caused yields to suffer, the protracted maturation resulted in wines with remarkable intensity of flavour, and retention of good acid levels.
